I got this good deal on a laptop computer at newegg.com. Its a nice computer. The res is good on the screen...its a little small vertically, but its a wide-screen. Its not bad, but at times it hurts to look at because of the tiny fonts. Its mostly on web sites with rebellious formatting and styles that go against my Windows theme. Its alright though, I'll live.
So my computer is an AMD Turion 64 processor with a gig of ram and a 100gb hard drive. Its not bad. I play games with it like Quake 3 and 4, and Half Life 1 and 2, and Unreal Tournament 2004. These games play well on it. I also use it for composing and performing techno/trance music. It gets a bit bogged down sometimes performing live if I've gotten a big creative with the mixer routings and synth configurations along with the effects, so I try and keep it simple.
I think another gig of ram would be just right for this machine.
I think though, that in not too long from now, we'll have tablet pcs available that are about as good or better than this sweet little system. You know, ...I've always dreamed of having a sweet tablet pc. I only want a killer one though. If it can't do EVERYTHING I want it to ...like play games well, and be used for performing music....well whats the point of having it? Just to stay organized? Get real.
I want an all in wonderful tablet pc for everything. I want it to have MS Office Pro with OneNote on it so I can use the tablet pc features to its fullest. I want it to have a massively long life battery (which I want two of just in case), and maybe a 200 gig hard drive would be nice too. I'm already half way to full on this 100gb.
You see, I want to organize everything I do using OneNote because it is the best virtual notebook software available right now that I know of which can take handwritten notes along with voice notes and video. Oh yeah, that'd be another nice thing to have in my awesome tablet pc. A built in digital video camera. Why not? They are small enough to stick in a small place in the casing, and they are dirt cheap to make.
There are some tablet pcs that come with a fingerprint security scanner too. That would be a nice feature for my ultimate personal computer so that people don't jack it or jack stuff off of it. Not that I'll be letting it out of my site in public.
You could argue that there are programs out there that rival OneNote...you can go ahead and talk about all of the features built into programs like KeyNote, or TreePad, or other such programs which I've used and still do to this day. They don't really come in second or third even compared to OneNote though. They're almost a whole different breed. They do what they do very well, but OneNote is for people who are serious and who want a seriously intuitive interface capable of much more.
So since I can pay this laptop off before the 6 months no payments is up and not incur finance charges, I'll do just that. Then I'll have another 2 grand of credit available at newegg.com again, and I'll get myself this awesome ultimate tablet pc which should be available about by the time I've gotten this one paid for.
In fact, ...yes its spendy, but think of it: A new PC every 6 months. Maybe once a year or so though..you know its not totally crazy. With cars for example. I bought a new car on a loan a couple years ago. I'm not done with the payments, but I'm planning on trading it in for a new car with a few more features. I want to always have something that's new and under warranty and is reliable even if I'm paying for it. I could go the same way with PCs. PCs get outdated faster than you can buy them. So why not apply the same idea here? Especially when you can just make payments as you go...and still own it...and not have finance charges, and at the same time you KEEP what you pay for? Dude, its a rockin idea.
I plan on giving this laptop to my friend when I get the newer one. He'll be ecstatic about that because he's always wanted a laptop, and this one really rocks ..especially compared to the pc he has now. That pc is a desktop system and its big and heavy too.
So here I sit, blogging away letting you know what I think I want. Well, ...I DO want it. Now to prove it -- right? Yes...I will eventually have it...and more.
